• Australia Electoral Commission – you and every member of votable age in your home need to re-register, especially if you moved to a different electoral district. Change your address on the AEC website.
• Post Office – Notifying your post office is essential when moving and changing addresses. This should be the first on your list and done at least 1 week before moving. If possible do it 3 months before moving. Apply here through the Australia Post website.
• Veterans’ Affairs – Veterans should visit the Australian Government Department of Veterans’ Affairs webpage.

Subscriptions

Cancel subscriptions if you are moving far away. This can be done by either visiting their physical location or by giving them a call. If you are moving close by and the services are offered in that area, then you just need to notify them of your address change.

Whether you plan on changing providers or keeping the same, you will need to update them accordingly. Some providers charge you a fee if you decide to cancel early so refer to your contract and see the terms set out. If you are staying with the same providers, letting them know of your change of address will ensure you receive all bills at your new location on time. This helps to ensure that your services do not get cut off due to a lack of payment or late payment. Once cut off, some companies may need you to pay a reconnection fee before your services are restored

Insurance

Some insurers work out your costs and premiums based on location so it is important to tell them about your address change. This may be beneficial to you in a case where you are moving to an area with less risk as your insurance rate may decrease.

However, this is not the case with all insurance providers, but letting them know your new address allows you to send your bills to the correct place. This ensures you always pay your bill on time so that you are always covered.

Even if your money goes directly into your bank account, you will still need to let your employer know of your change of address. This will make certain pay stubs, tax forms, retirement funds and similar documents go to the right place. 

Educational Institutions 

• Schools – Inform your children’s schools of your change of address so that you do not miss important meetings and information by having correspondence going to the wrong address.
• Universities – Likewise, universities need your new address to send over tuition fees and all other payments so that you are up to date with your payments to stay enrolled.
• Child care center – if you leave your child in a daycare center, it is wise to let them know your new address. In the event of any emergencies, they have all the correct information.

Financial Related

• Bank or Credit/Debit Card Providers- update your information at the bank to prevent identity theft. This can be done by visiting your bank’s office or on their website.
• Pension – if you are receiving your pension from a private entity, it is of utmost importance to make sure they have your updated address. This is to help avoid delays and confusion and get your pension on time.
• Premium bonds – not updating your new address can lead to you not being able to receive your winnings. Change the address either by phone or email so that you can receive your winnings after investing in premium bonds.

Shopping

Most stores offer benefits by issuing a store card that also includes your address. Give them the new information in-store, online or on the phone. This makes sure that items do not get delivered to the wrong address and create confusion.

Any individual or company who helps you personally should be made aware of your change of address. When moving far away, you will have to cancel their services and if not, give them the new address so that there is no problem when filing your taxes or finding your new house to clean.
